Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Does the business require any certification to increase credibility?
    • However, in Canada, certification is not required for the treatment of these cases. The team has the proper training and courses for the effective treatment of nits and lice. We train with the best clinics nationwide in order to offer quality service and effective treatments.
  2. Are there any health or safety regulations for the lice treatment business in this region?
    • Our team has the necessary certifications in first aid, as well as the adequate preparation and experience to carry out these treatments.
  3. How does the pricing strategy balance affordability and premium service to ensure both competitiveness and profitability in the market?
    • This is not a low-cost service; however, the initial plan is to offer mobile services, which will help maintain competitive pricing. Although lice infestations are more common among low-income individuals, the strategy is to establish partnerships with nonprofit organizations and government agencies so they can cover the cost of the service for those in need.
  4. What specific strategies will be used to build strong relationships with local school, families, organizations, and health centers to encourage referrals and word of mouth marketing?
    • Establish formal collaborations with schools, daycare centers, and health clinics to offer educational workshops on lice prevention and treatment.
    • Partner with nonprofit organizations and government programs to provide subsidized services for families in need.
    • Build a strong online presence through a website, social media, and local community forums.
    • Encourage satisfied customers to leave positive reviews and testimonials.
  5. What key performance indicators will be used to measure the success of marketing efforts, and how will the business ensure repeat customers or long-term client relationships?
    • Reviews
    • Number of clients per month
    • Return on investment
    • Tracking social media interactions
  6. As demand increases, how does the business plan to scale operations while maintaining personalized and high-quality service?
    • Creating an online booking system
    • Hire and training new staff to offer a quality service
    • Set standards or procedures to offer the service
    • Stablish a removal and preventive treatment clinic
  7. Who are your competitors in this type of business? Kindly describe their services.
    • According to my research, there are no competitors in Terrace, Kitimat, Hazelton, and Prince Rupert. However, my closest competitor is located in Prince George’s, which I consider far from Terrace to become a competitor.
  8. What is your value proposition?
    • My idea is to offer competitive prices per hour with no hidden extra charges.
    • Offering non-toxic or chemical-free treatments but effective results.
    • Offering in-home services which make the process easier
  1. What made you decide to put up this kind of business? What inspired you?

I see this as an unmet need in the city and surrounding areas, particularly during the winter months when lice infestations are common among elementary school-aged children. This issue primarily affects middle- and lower-income families. However, the goal is to establish partnerships with nonprofit and government organizations focused on individual well-being, allowing them to cover the costs for those in need. The market for lice removal services is growing at an annual rate of 7%, presenting a strong business opportunity. Additionally, the low startup costs “thanks to the mobile nature of the service” make this a viable and potentially successful business.

10. What are your initial investments? How do you plan to open up your business? Will you start in one location or you will open all the areas mentioned in your plan all together (Terrace, Prince Rupert, Hazelton, Smithers)? Will there be people who will assist you when you are starting your business?

Start-up costs will mainly include lice removal tools, treatment products (preferably non-toxic and environmentally friendly), protective equipment, transportation costs (for mobile services), marketing materials and certifications not required. The initial idea is to offer services from home to home, and the strategy to move between the different cities will be to schedule several appointments each day to cover the costs of gas, food, and stay in case of going for a couple of days.  I’ll be working alone.

11. How much does the service cost per visit or per person?
The treatment starts at $45.00 for 30 minutes or $95.00 for one hour. It includes the removal of lice and nits using a natural, chemical-free solution. Hair length does not affect the price; however, the severity of the case may require additional time, which could result in extra charges.

12. What products are used, and are they safe for children?
No products containing pesticides or harsh chemicals are used. The treatments are natural and contain enzymes, minerals, and essential oils. One of the main products is Spray Away Enzyme Cleaner, which is environmentally friendly and safe for both children and adults.

13. How long does the treatment take?
The treatment begins during the first visit and includes a second follow-up session about 7 days later, lasting approximately 30 minutes. Additionally, to ensure full elimination, daily combing at home is recommended for three weeks following the initial treatment.

14. Do you offer any type of guarantee in case lice reappear?
Yes, we offer a limited guarantee, provided all post-treatment recommendations are followed, including the follow-up visit and daily combing at home. If lice reappear, a free check-up or a discounted follow-up treatment may be offered, depending on the situation.

Note: The guarantee is currently limited for locations outside of Terrace until a confirmed appointment schedule is available in that area. This is due to service logistics and technician availability. Full guarantee details are explained during the initial appointment.

15. What are your monthly income goals, and how do you plan to achieve them?

As outlined in the financial plan, monthly income during the first year will vary depending on the season, with more consistent demand during the winter months. The business will start with just one session per month during the quieter periods, increasing to up to 15 sessions per month during peak seasons.
In the second year, income is expected to grow due to strategic partnerships with schools and organizations, as well as stronger brand recognition and market positioning.

16. What are your costs for supplies, transportation, and labor?

According to the Income Statement, first-year operating costs are estimated at $3,731.00, while supply costs are projected to be $1,720.00, based on the number of treatments provided.
With total sales estimated at $6,564.00 before taxes, the business would generate a net income of $1,113.00, resulting in a profit margin of 16.96%.
In year 2, the profit margin is projected to increase to 32.45%, and by year 3, to 42.36%, indicating steady and promising growth.

17. Is this a full-time or part-time business? What is the long-term plan?

This business will begin as a part-time venture. The goal is to reinvest profits to gradually strengthen its presence in the market.
In the long term, I plan to open a fixed location to offer services on-site. However, the first five years will be critical to evaluate the business’s potential and long-term success.

18. Are you insured for home visits?

Yes, I will have the following insurance coverage from the start:

  1. Commercial General Liability Insurance – Covers third-party property damage and personal injury during home visits.
  2. Professional Liability Insurance – Protects against claims related to negligence, service errors, or skin reactions to treatments.
  3. Commercial Auto Insurance – Since I’ll be using my personal vehicle for business purposes, I will upgrade my coverage to ensure protection in case of accidents or theft, which standard personal insurance does not cover.
  4. Tools and Equipment Insurance – While the equipment is not expensive at this stage, I plan to get this coverage as the business grows.
  5. Workers’ Compensation Insurance – This will be required once I hire staff. Although I’ll be working alone in the beginning, I plan to include this insurance starting year 3.

19. Will you also sell tools and products, or will you only provide the service?

I will offer a basic post-treatment kit, but these are tools that can also be easily found in pharmacies or grocery stores.
The focus will remain on providing a high-quality in-home treatment service, with products available as a convenient add-on.

20. What measures will you implement to ensure proper sanitation and hygiene?

At Lice and Nits Knockout, sanitation and hygiene are top priorities to ensure the safety of both clients and staff. We will implement the following measures:

  • Strict disinfection protocols: All tools (combs, clips, etc.) will be thoroughly disinfected with hospital-grade, non-toxic cleaning solutions after each use.
  • Single-use protective items: Whenever possible, items such as gloves, towels, and capes will be disposable or assigned per client to avoid cross-contamination.
  • Clean work environment: For mobile services, technicians will follow a checklist to sanitize the working area before and after each visit. Surfaces, chairs, and treatment kits will be cleaned with eco-friendly disinfectants.
  • Personal hygiene and appearance: Technicians will be trained to maintain personal hygiene standards and wear clean uniforms or branded attire to ensure a professional presentation and hygienic service.
  • Post-treatment care guidance: Clients will receive instructions on how to sanitize their home environment (bedding, hats, brushes, etc.) to prevent reinfestation.

These measures not only comply with industry best practices but also build trust with families, schools, and community partners.

21. What is the preferred process for customers to book a service or obtain additional information about your offerings?

Clients can book appointments or request information through:

  • Our official website and social media platforms ( Facebook and Instagram are our primary outreach tools).
  • Phone or text bookings, available for flexible scheduling.
  • Community outreach at schools, events, and parent groups, where we provide information and offer scheduling opportunities.

As the business grows, we plan to implement an online booking system and eventually open a physical location to expand access and offer walk-in services, further simplifying the customer journey.

22. How do you plan to address the objective of “lice removal in one session” and, at the same time, target a segment of “loyal customers”?

Our primary objective is to remove head lice effectively in a single professional session, using natural, chemical-free products and manual removal techniques. However, to ensure complete eradication and minimize the risk of re-infestation, we provide a follow-up session seven days after the initial treatment. Additionally, we offer a post-treatment kit, clear instructions for daily at-home combing over a three-week period, and a detailed guide on how to maintain a lice-free environment at home. This includes recommendations such as sealing stuffed animals in plastic bags for a minimum of seven days, and properly cleaning items like pillows, bed linens, and hair accessories to support the full eradication of the infestation.

By combining effective immediate results with ongoing support, we build trust and reliability, key factors in attracting and retaining loyal customers. Parents and caregivers value not only fast results but also guidance and peace of mind, which encourages repeat business and referrals.
